Types
Plastic Injection Mould - This is a manufacturing process that produces parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials. In this process, molten plastic is injected into a mold at very high pressure which is the inverse of the product's shape.

Lost Wax Injection mold - These molds are very effective for low volume production in the complex engineering parts. They also are good for big volume production as well as for highly intricate parts.

Die Casting Mold - In this process molten metal is forced under high pressure into mold cavities. This is the best option in applications where many small to medium sized parts are needed with good detail, a fine surface quality and dimensional consistency.

Sand Cast mold - Sand Cast molds are made of green sand which comprises of silica sand of high quality and are made especially for ferrous castings.

Materials
Sand and ceramic material have very high ability to withstand high temperatures of molten metals without undergoing a change in their properties. Hence, they are used as coating material for molds in which alloys with high temperatures have to be poured for cooling. Die castings on the other hand are made from nonferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, and aluminum based alloys. Manufacturing of Ferrous metal die castings are possible with high quality silica sand, 10 per cent Bentonite clay, 5% water and 5% sea coal.

Applications
The die casting method is especially suited for applications where many small to medium sized parts are needed with good detail, a fine surface quality and dimensional consistency. In areas where alloys with high temperatures have to be poured for cooling, sand molds are helpful as they have very high ability to withstand high temperatures of molten metals, without undergoing a change in their properties.
