Chains

Types
Basically the segment of chain hardware is divided in two distinct types depending upon their style.

1. The type of chain designed for lifting purpose is one style of chain. They can be used with a hoist for pulling or for securing locks. They essential are torus shaped which helps them in making the chain flexible in two directions.

2. The next style is meant to transfer power in machines and are made in a manner to mesh with the teeth of the sprockets of the machine. also known as roller chains, these are flexible only in one direction.

Material
As far as material in concerned, a chain is usually made of metal. Metal is a key material involved in making most of the devices in the mechanical hardware segment. Having superior electrical and thermal conductivity, luster and density, metals can be deformed under stress without cleaving.

Application
Chains are perhaps one of the most common member of the mechanical hardware industry. Their application is so wide that it is almost impossible to list all of them. However, some of the areas where they are ubiquitous are drive wheels of bicycles and heavy machineries.. These chains today are also used for security purpose as door chains and snow chains which are useful in improving traction of snow. some of the other areas where too one can find these mechanical chains are bicycle lock, high tensile chain, karate sticks and in agricultural machinery.
