Types
Machine Tools can be sub categorized in the following segments -

Hand Tool - They include Automotive Hand Tools, Construction Hand Tools, Cutting Tools, Digging Tools, Drilling Tools, Engineering Hand Tools, Garden Hand Tools, Measuring Tools, Plumbing Hand Tools, Striking Tools and Woodworking Hand Tools. When speaking of hand tools in hardware market, we include all those machines that need a human back up for their implementation. These hand tools can be manually used employing mechanical force, or electrically powered, using electrical current.

Power Tools - All the mechanical tools that employ electrical current via electric motors are referred as power tools. They are used in industry, in construction, and around the house for cutting, shaping, drilling, sanding, painting, grinding, and polishing. Some examples of these power tools are Construction Power Tools, Garden Power Tools, Power Painting, Power Tools Accessory and Woodworking Power Tools.

Materials
Some of the key materials that are involved in the production of these machine tools are high carbon steels, high speed steels, cast cobalt alloy, cemented carbides, ceramics, polycrystalline diamonds and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride. High speed steels are the toughest material in this segment but their scope is limited as they are subject to low wear resistance. Ultra hard materials like CBN and PCD should be used as they maintain high wear resistance even at high speeds.

Applications
The application of machine tools is vast as it includes a wide range of skills and requires the use of many different types of tools and specialized machines. Though they are installed as capital equipment but they have been recognized as the key to any country's industrialization. These hardware tools better known as machine tools can be used for turning, boring, milling, drilling, tapping. Be it a simple machine or a complex one, they require the aid of these machine tools to provide the best possible results.
