Types
Some of the major types of storage hardware are -

Hard Drives - Hard drives are integral, non volatile electronic storage units inside the computer. Though traditionally they were hard wired into computers but today removable hard disks and drives are also available.

Floppy Drives - Floppy drives are thin flexible magnetic storage device that are encased in a square or rectangular plastic shell. Though they have the advantage of being removable but today the USB and CD ROM has taken its place.

Magnetic Tape Drive - This is an important storage medium and continues to do so. The only drawback of magnetic tapes is that it has limitations of speed and access, making it an impractical choice.

Disc Drives - These components of computer hardware are non volatile storage devices that stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Today, Most major hard disk support self-monitoring, analysis and reporting technology, which endeavors to alert users to impending failures.

Mounting Hardware - Mounting hardware is used on computer boards. They are standard equipments that help in connecting wires for a variety of electronic components, including terminal blocks.

Network Storage - Network attached storage includes all the devices that are file-level computer data storage and are connected to a computer network providing data access to heterogeneous network clients.

Storage Cables - This section comprise of all the products that incorporate in making the storage cables. There are cable reels used for storage, unwinding, and winding of conductive cable or lifting cable.

Material
Basic technology for data storage hardware is dependent on materials. Some of the most common materials that goes in the manufacturing of storage hardware includes metals, aluminum, plastics and lead. Some devices in the storage hardware market are made of recycled aluminum, bamboo and even plastics. Chemicals as well as waste materials too are incorporated to make various storage devices.

Application
Storage hardware today, has not remained confined to one's personal computer. Besides being used in home, these storage hardware can be used for official purpose also. The mounting hardware can be used for linking traffic signals as well. Besides, there are promotional storage cables that can be used in the office. These cables also come very handy during trade shows and any other programme that is dependent on digital backup.
