Types
Visual Display Unit - Known as monitor or computer screen in the layman's term, this output device is a two-dimensional visual presentation of information on a device that display information on a screen.

Printers - In the computing terms, printer is a peripheral that produces hard copy of of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper or transparencies.

Speakers & Headphones - Speaker and headphones in the computer hardware can be used for various sounds that is meant to alert the user, as well as let the user enjoy music and spoken text.

Graphical Output Devices - They are the most common output devices that work on graphical modes. They, most of the time assist the monitor in displaying the information. Examples of graphical output device includes cathode ray tube and flat panel display.

Material
An output does not necessarily require a sophisticated technology or material to work. However, the graphical output devices may demand so. The 2 dimensional monitor works with the help of TFT LCD or a cathode ray tube. Major material used are simple circuitry to generate and format a picture from video sent by the signals source, and usually an enclosure. There is also a display adapter to generate video in a format compatible with the monitor.

Applications
The scope of computer output devices is not confines to home PCs. The ambit of installing output devices has reached the various retail outlets and schools as well. They not only display information to the outside world via a monitor but also gives a chance to keep it intact by getting it printed.
