The potential of this technology has been realized most conspicuously by the Probation and pretrial services that have installed the Probation and Pretrial Services Automated Case Tracking-Electronic Case Management System. Undertaking a project for the same, known as CCTP, they offer this system to the 94 federal court districts. This technology involves softwares that aids the officers to track the case of a particular client. In addition, they can enter various other information like visiting notes, maintaining records, saving photos or even sharing the information with fellow officers, irrespective of where you are. By using electronic assistance, the officers can load as well as recover data like historical sentences, conditions, and address information, even digital photos of offenders, their homes, or vehicles even before vising the client.
The branch also asserts that all the officers who use PDAs and PACTSECM software have the advantage of spending less time at their desks as compared to the ones who do not avail this benefit. This further has a beneficial social impact as these officers have more time to remain in the field – supervising clients and also insure community safety more effectively. Withstanding certain limitations of the PDA's like difficulty in uploading information at the scene and problems in adjusting to a smaller screen, PDA's have great potential to become successful tool in extending the safety measures in a wide manner. The implementation of this technology is wide and it is being estimated that it will be able to cover up large areas of the country and help Officers to create action items, alerts, and reminders based on supervision case plans, capture services provided by non contract providers, and track multiple charges a client incurs during supervision.
