Cisco's New Initiative : Adding Social Network to Its Forte

Cisco System, a leading supplier of networking equipment and network management for Internet, has finally launched its much awaited social networking technology. Though initialized two years ago when Cisco started counting big media companies, it is only now that it will set up a new software to help these companies support the power of social networking and connect their brands to the fans.

This announcement came from Dan Scheinman, an executive of Cisco Systems, in Las Vegas. Launched under the brand name Eos, this is a hosted software programme that will allow media as well as entertainment companies to create, manage and grow online communities. By assembling this technology with various tools, Cisco has made an easy to use interface that will help in effortless customizing of websites. This technology will not only help companies to grow online but will also let the companies establish interactive websites in order to avail the fans an easy way to connect with musicians, TV shows, movies or what ever brand the media company wants to promote.

This thought was provoked way back in the year 2006, and it was then when Cisco marked its flagship by creating the Media Solutions business unit to develop and market various products to digital media content owners. Further, in February 2007, the company took a step forward in the direction, by buying a company called Five Across. This company, that served as the base of this project of Cisco, is known for developing excellent social networking. The main aim behind the launch of this software is to combat one of the most prevalent problems faced by the media companies. According to the company executive Mr. Dan "The reality is that media is so disrupted by digital technology, Fans are looking for ways to connect to their favorite artists or TV shows and they are seeking out communities, but the media companies have been slow to provide this for them. Eos is centered around community and allows fans to participate."

Warner Music group will be the first major media company for which this software will be implemented. This technology tool will allow Warner Music Group to create blogs, chat live, message boards, rating and ranking systems. In the nascent stage, the company is planning to create websites for two artists, Laura Izibor and Sean Paul.

Cisco Systems, which deals in networking hardware claims that it realizes the potential of social networking and the web 2.0 experience which is becoming the latest trend in the infrastructure business. Believing the software to have an excellent impact on all the people who are involved, the company executive has urged the media companies to come out of the infrastructure business as it consumes a lot of money. It also highlights the advantages of this software by adding that by installing, even fans can get a more interactive experience with this technology.

Cisco also lures the companies with its holistic approach towards providing them with a strong and common platform that is easier to manage and much less costly than building it from scratch. More than that, the companies do not even have to take the tension of being abreast with the technological innovations as can fully concentrate on their businesses.
