chandelier.jpgSelection of light fixtures for your home can be a difficult task. The different types of basic lighting sources  available in the market are in different sizes, designs and shapes. The various types available suit different requirements and different moods. We guide you with some helpful tips that will help you in making your decision for right lighting fixtures for your home.

 Chandeliers
– Chandeliers are used to add light as well as style to the decor, however, they should not be the only source of light in a room. When a chandelier is used as the only source of light in a room, it looks glary, unless it is used only in an intimate setting. When a chandelier is placed over a table, it should be around 30 inches above the table and about 12 inches within the outer edges of the sides of the most narrow width of the table. Chandeliers come in a variety of styles that range from traditional to contemporary designs.

- Foyer fixtures are primarily used for style and entrance lighting purposes. The ideal height for a foyer fixture above the floor is at least 7 feet from the floor. Foyer fixtures can be used along with chandeliers, wall mounts and pendants to add a touch of sophistication and richness in the beauty of decor.

 Other Light Fixtures –
Other lighting fixtures include mini pendant lights, wall mounted fixtures or wall scones, bathroom lighting fixtures, portable lamps, track lighting, recessed lighting, cabinet lighting, and more. These lighting fixtures come in a variety of attractive designs, styles and finishes and are designed for different purposes and requirements.

  • Mini pendant lights are suitable for use over a bar area and should be above 30 inches above the bar top.
  • Wall mounted fixtures or wall scones can be used in combination with chandeliers and recessed lights to create a perfect balance of light in a space.
  • Always prefer higher wattage light sources for use as bathroom lighting fixtures, as these are used for grooming of bathroom.
  • Portable lamps can be used to add a touch of style to living rooms and are ideal for bedside reading.
  • Contemporary lighting can be used as a great architectural lighting source to condo spaces, which have limited electrical access.
  • If planned from the beginning of a housing project, recessed lighting is a best option, as it can be added before the drywall ceiling is finished. Recessed lighting is also a great source of controllable light.
  • Cabinet lighting is primarily used to off set shadowing in kitchen areas.
